Hello hoopers,
I am wondering if anyone has any advice to give me about purchasing a portable music player for hoop jams in the park. I had a really small iPod speaker set, but it is just not loud enough for everyone to hear at our weekly hoop jams. I am looking into purchasing a new one, and I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation? My hesitation in buying a bigger sound system has a lot to do with the fact that they are usually powered by D batteries, but I suppose I could just invest in some rechargeable ones and it wouldn't be the end of the world...
Thoughts?
As always, thanks for your help!

Fri, July 17, 2009 - 2:09 AMSony's ZSH10CP Heavy Duty CD Radio Boombox
by Sony
$159.99
I have one of these, and love the sound quality and volume! Has a plugin for MP3 players, and I usually pack an extension cord just to power it, but it does take 6 D cells (and yes, I've got rechargeables!)
X.

Re: recommendations for portable music player?
Fri, July 17, 2009 - 4:24 AMI don't personally have the Block Rocker, but it's one I'm getting when I finally need to commit to a bigger sound system. I know 2 people who have them and they are very happy with it; I've also been in an outdoor workshop where one was used and the sound quality was fine. -

Fri, July 17, 2009 - 5:30 AMI have the Block Rocker and it's ace - can't fault it. Easy to move around like a flight case, the power lasts ages and ages! Quality is fine, volume and clarity. Super dupe!

Re: recommendations for portable music player?
Fri, July 17, 2009 - 11:20 AMI have the Ion as well. I think it's worth the investment and LOVE mine. You can definitly find it for a little more than $200. You can also daisy chain them, so if you know someone else with one, you can literally Rock the Block and have a right and left channel speaker system! However, it is only rechargeable - so you cannot run it on batteries, even if you'd like to.... -

Re: recommendations for portable music player?
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 10:38 AMhow does it recharge? I have a solar panel adaptor that I charge my computer and phone with, might it work for the ion? Can it be plug in to an outlet? And about how long does it take to recharge? Thanks much -

Re: recommendations for portable music player?
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 11:18 AMYou plug it into a wall to recharge it. I bet you could use your solar adapter. It takes less than four hours to fully charge. They're on sale at Amazon right now and qualify for free shipping. I got mine for $240 total cost. Love the Ion Block Rocker!!! So sturdy and on wheels. They even work on the beach!

Re: recommendations for portable music player?
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 11:20 AMWhoops that was in response to the person who said you can't use batteries even if you want to but you can plug it into a drop cord and it charges even as you use it, just like your computer.

Re: recommendations for portable music player?
Sun, July 26, 2009 - 2:38 PMHey there! I needed to buy speakers to help support our local spin jams, and the ones I settled on were the Altec Lansing iM310 compact iPod speakers: www.amazon.com/Altec-Lans.../B001AO1SRE
The reasons why I like them:
* They are very compact - about the size of a laptop folded in half. I can wrap the whole thing in a towel and toss it in my backpack.
* It runs off of 3 AA batteries, and it's pretty easy to find rechargeable AA batteries. It also has a wall plug when you're near power.
* It's got an iPod port, and an AUX jack for any other audio source you may have
* It's not going to power a block party, but it's loud enough to hold down an outdoor spin jam with several people
* It was about $60 at Best Buy
Hope that helps!
