I just bought my Christmas present. It was a portable Bose Sounddock. Pretty pricey, but I need great sound when I hoop. Well, got home plugged it in and it seems to be missing something. The base is almost non-existent. There was a flyer in the pkg. stating their way of producing quality sound is to reduce the base and treble range explaining it is fake. I missed this in the preview sample at the store.

Though the volume does expand fairly loud and certain types of music do sound great, but I am ready to take it back and order the Ion Rockblocker. Does anyone know how the blocker compares, would I be making the right decision. I will have to order it online, so I will not get a chance to hear the comparison.

This is another one I am considering.
Does anyone have a portable Kicker with the battery accessory. It is almost as much as the Bose so I would need a great recommendation.

Thanks

You plug it into a wall to recharge it. I bet you could use your solar adapter. It takes less than four hours to fully charge. They're on sale at Amazon right now and qualify for free shipping. I got mine for $240 total cost. Love the Ion Block Rocker!!! So sturdy and on wheels. They even work on the beach!

Hey there! I needed to buy speakers to help support our local spin jams, and the ones I settled on were the Altec Lansing iM310 compact iPod speakers: http://www.amazon.com/Altec-Lansing-inMotion-Portable-Speakers/dp/B001AO1SRE

The reasons why I like them:
  * They are very compact - about the size of a laptop folded in half. I can wrap the whole thing in a towel and toss it in my backpack.
  * It runs off of 3 AA batteries, and it's pretty easy to find rechargeable AA batteries. It also has a wall plug when you're near power.
  * It's got an iPod port, and an AUX jack for any other audio source you may have
  * It's not going to power a block party, but it's loud enough to hold down an outdoor spin jam with several people
  * It was about $60 at Best Buy

Hope that helps!

I have the Ion as well. I think it's worth the investment and LOVE mine. You can definitly find it for a little more than $200. You can also daisy chain them, so if you know someone else with one, you can literally Rock the Block and have a right and left channel speaker system! However, it is only rechargeable - so you cannot run it on batteries, even if you'd like to....

I don't personally have the Block Rocker, but it's one I'm getting when I finally need to commit to a bigger sound system. I know 2 people who have them and they are very happy with it; I've also been in an outdoor workshop where one was used and the sound quality was fine.

Hello hoopers,

I am wondering if anyone has any advice to give me about purchasing a portable music player for hoop jams in the park. I had a really small iPod speaker set, but it is just not loud enough for everyone to hear at our weekly hoop jams. I am looking into purchasing a new one, and I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation? My hesitation in buying a bigger sound system has a lot to do with the fact that they are usually powered by D batteries, but I suppose I could just invest in some rechargeable ones and it wouldn't be the end of the world...

Thoughts?

As always, thanks for your help!
