I'm trying to find the best way to make fabric covered hoops and I was wondering if any of you have any helpful hints. I just made my first one by cutting 1" strips of fabric and using clear vinyl tape on each end to tape the fabric to the hoop. I also used metallic tape and gaffer for the edges of the fabric. I'm just not sure how the fabric will hold up being that it's not completely taped to the tubing. Do you use double stick tape or maybe use clear vinyl over the whole length of the fabric? Any advice would be greatly appreciated:)

Re: Making fabric covered hoops
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 2:39 PMI was going to do an experiment with making a fabric covered hoop using hot glue... went to a festival recently and someone had a bunch of hoops for sale, most of which were covered in various kinds of fabric. They wrapped them like they would with tape, so logically I figured it had been done with the glue. Hope that helps!! :)

Re: Making fabric covered hoops
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 12:09 PMI tried it once using spray-on glue I found in the fabric store. That was a couple of years ago, and the hoop is still in nearly perfect shape. However, it was a heck of a mess to work with...

Re: Making fabric covered hoops
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 11:05 PMI made a leather wrapped hoop following Rich Porter's advice. I cut it into 1" strips, and used M3 spray adhesive to glue it one. I also used a spiral of black gaffer's to accent and tape down the edges. Was messy with the spray adhesive but it worked out great.

Thu, November 12, 2009 - 11:55 AMthe trick is to use double sided tape on the back of the fabric strips, and maybe an accent vinyl tape to cover the fabric edges---props to Marshoopial for this one! :)

Re: Making fabric covered hoops
Thu, November 26, 2009 - 6:28 AMHi, i make and sell fur fabric hoops at
www.rainbow-hoops.com
i use a double sided tape, the best short haired fur fabric
and a spike gaffer to hold the edges down.
The gaffer gives more grip.
Hope this helps :)
