Has anyone every heard of getting "cut" by a hoop or it's tape. An older lady in my friends class was trying hooping, as the hoop fell it hit her in the shin and she began to bleed. She's convinced that the hoop cut her. There is nothing sharp on my hoops! I have never heard of this...ever. Personally I think she simply bumped the thin skin on her shin and "busted" or "split" her shin, like you might "bust" or "split" your lip. The same thing could have happened through any contact. Running into a coffee table etc.

What do yall think? She's keeps saying the hoop cut her!

it could be a variety of causes -- the pressure splitting thin skin, the rough grip tape causing an abrasion... have you inspected the hoop to see if there's any metallic tape that's come up from lots of use over time? that stuff can be super sharp if an edge has come undone.

I've definitely gotten small cuts and scratches on my skin from ripped up metallic tape. They are more like paper cuts or cat scratches than a fully bleeding cut, though...

yep, check to see if the metallic tape is sticking up at all. I've gotten many a cut from taping hoops with it. And if you get a nick in just the right place, it can bleed like crazy

No, it is possible to get cut by a hoop. I've had it happen myself. Sadly, more than once because a lot of my hoops get beaten up at hoop jams by kids. Usually it's from metal tape that has a small tear in it. It is metal after all and this leaves a sharp edge. In fact, if you don't have your edges covered, it can happen just from the edges themselves. I recommend checking your hoops and re-taping if necessary or covering the edges if they need covering.

Caroleeena's right, a crease or fold in the metallic tapes can easily split and that can cut. Also, even the ends of vinyl tapes can scratch and therefore possible cut. I have a hoop that I love but it does scratch my arms to bits.
