Aluminum Circus Hoops

I've finally found a vendor for aluminum circus hoops. I know a lot of us have been talking about those hoops but I could never find anyone who made them. Now I have and they're fairly reasonably priced. I think I'm going to get one just to try it out. Here's a link to the place I found that sells them:

I looked at these through hoop guy's website in the UK and quickly changed my mind when I saw they provided podiums for animals (or "Tiger Cakes" as they are called...) to perform on. Its a personal choice but I think there's no place for animals in circuses in 2007 and wont be giving my money to a company that contributes to that kind of performance.

I agree that wild animals do not belong in circuses. This is the first place I have seen aluminum hoops though and I've been looking for some time. These are the hoops people in the circus use so I suspect that any place that sells them is also going to sell a full range of circus supplies. If anyone has another resource, I'd love to hear it.

Khan Beth and I live near each other so it would be easy for us to order hoops together. I'm not sure where you are but email me and maybe we can figure out an economic way to work things out. Or perhaps there is another place that carries these hoops. I haven't been able to find one but maybe someone else can.

Betty that article was super cool! Thanks for posting it.

These hoops are 36" diameter...I ordered 5 of them a while back and split them among Bax and tribe...I like their weight and speed, but they were too thin/slick to do a lot of my more dynamic salling techniques and I haven't really gotten that into them...just a personal perference...they are great for "poi moves" though. Will keep you moving fast, for sure.

Yeah, Bax, duh. I already own two of these hoops. Obviously I'm a little trigger happy when it comes to spending money on hooping supplies.

And I second Spiral's comments. I was in love with these hoops for about a week. But in the end they limited my style too much because it was too hard to break and reverse currents. They are stunning when they are spinning but are really clangy when twin hooping.

This has inspired me to bring them out and give them a go again. Ever in search of the perfect hoop!

Curious about these. Did anyone ever make a purchase? How was the quality? Fun factor rating and where do they fall in your hoop line up these days?

I have tried a few out
They are sooo amazing and heavy
Though I really don't think they would lend them selves to hoop dance styles they have to much momentum to change the direction/angle quickly.
      Actualy they could really hurt.
But they are good if you are working on a circus style stuff like splits.

I've got very light hoops and really appreciate their grace and balance.
They require me to focus and listen carefully.
I like that, so although not doing many tricks, it's very peaceful and I move with greater flow.
downside - they are noisy when dropped, they don't like sloppy movement.
So I often use my heavier hoops for light relief :)
