Is there a name for that one trick that you are hooping around your waist and then you grab the hoop in front as you bend forward at the waist and the hoop keeps going around your back? Anyone have any tips to learning (it looks so easy!! but it's not) or know if there are other posts on tribe that refer to this? Thanks!

Re: that one bending over trick
Sun, February 11, 2007 - 2:01 PMWhen I learned this trick from Christabel, she called it a forward bend duck-out.
The motion is very similar to lifting the hoop over your head with your non-dominant hand, so it helps if you are comfortable doing that. I hoop CCW, so I use my left hand to scoop the hoop up on the right side of my body. As soon as I have the hoop in my left hand, I simultaneously bend my knees (have your feet at least shoulder width apart) and get down as low as possible. A lot of people *think* that they are bending down low enough, but they are actually rounding their backs slightly and dropping their heads forward. To make sure that you are going down low enough (which also makes the trick look cooler), put your right hand on the ground. I like to have my head about waist level.
Your left hand will move the hoop in the same direction that you hoop (CCW). Your left hand will be like the hand on a clock going from about 2 o'clock counterclockwise to about 6 o'clock right behind your back. You can let the hoop continue to rotate behind your back or you can stand up and continue waist hooping. If you want to go back to waist hooping, as soon as you feel the hoop touch your right hip, grab the outside of the hoop with your right hand and give it a good push.
As with many tricks, spinning in the same direction as your hoop helps. I start the trick standing still and begin spinning either when I scoop the hoop with my left hand or when the hoop hits my right hip.
Hope that helps! -

Re: that one bending over trick
Mon, February 12, 2007 - 2:35 PMi wish that I could hoop right now to try this. i always carry through to my other hand rather than going right back to waist hooping. Looks like it never goes to Christabels other hand until she is pushing it on to her waist. -

Re: that one bending over trick
Fri, February 16, 2007 - 11:06 AMSharna because of this slo mo video I am happy to say I can now do the duck out. I want to give another huzzah to the hooping tribe in general because this was a trick I hadn't even heard of until I read about it here. Then Sharna made that awesome video and it all came together.
This month, because of this community's efforts, I was able to learn two new tricks to incorporate in to my daily practice.

Sat, February 17, 2007 - 7:24 AMIs this the High School drop out? Or is this the same thing as the other video but just scooping the hoop lower. It was certainly harder for me to get on film.
