This weekend, we put an offer in for a house, and it was accepted! Hurray!
So it's been about 2 days... and I'm already considering building some type of outdoor hooping structure away from the house. I can hoop in the basement, but would totally prefer to have my own private retreat that has access to sunshine and where I can lose myself completely.
Has anyone ever built such a structure? I've thought about a yurt of some kind, and Beth Lavinder's beautiful studio in NC comes to mind :-) Or perhaps rehabbing the garage? What are your thoughts? Any photos or links to share?
It's not a gigantic yard (I'm in the city of Madison still), but I'd love to see what I can do! :-)

Re: Outdoor Hoop Studio?
Mon, April 13, 2009 - 9:43 PMdo you want something permeant? Or seasonal? Seasonal I would offer those shade tarps that are triangle or so shaped. Suspension like set up may be so there are no poles in the way. How would you do music? Portable or extention cord? Table and sitting place may be?

Dwell is a magazine about modern architecture.. and they've been turning towards prefabricated housing as a method to get good design at lower costs (and environmental impact!)
Check out their shed options :)

if i had any intentions of staying in my current crappy winter region, like if i was buying a home here, i would totally get myself a winter hoop shack like that. and a good qualitiy space heater! -

Tue, April 14, 2009 - 11:50 AMFor a low cost alternative you might check out Starplate systems:

Re: Outdoor Hoop Studio?
Wed, April 15, 2009 - 8:53 PMWow thanks for all of the responses! These look great, and I'll definitely check them out more thoroughly. Hadn't heard of any of them!
So I guess a few more details... I live in Madison WI (which means about 7 months of indoor hooping). I can probably run an extension cord from the house for electricity and a space heater. It will probably be just for me to hoop in there, but it would be nice if it could be a backyard hangout when I'm not hooping. I liked the Starplate idea... greenhouse/hoop house.... cooooollll!!! -

Re: Outdoor Hoop Studio?
Thu, April 16, 2009 - 1:59 AMJust wondering if you thought about joining a health club, using their available space when its not being used for classes.
I belong to Lifetime Fitness in NC and have a wonderful hoop workout everytime I go. I do have to go later (after 8:30pm on weekdays), but you can't beat it for indoor hooping. One thing really helps though, the club is open 24 hours. I can't imagine how expensive it would be to rent or lease comparable space.
I do carry in a fair amount of equipment, because you are not allowed to use their stereo system (which I completely understand)
Just a thought, Lois
