BUMP!

I need more music in my collection... especially if it is family-suitable and bouncy so I can use it in an upcoming gig!

Another funny: Caroleena, I was just listening to Ramalama last night, and thought it would be super-fun to hoop to!

I too have been hooping to Michael Franti for as long as I've been hooping. My favorite is "Feeling Free" and I really love "Ganja Babe" for a slower jam. I recently hooped to the OLD Louis Prima version of "When you're smiling" (because I can't stop when I hoop)..and it was really fun..very bouncy with some horns..cheerful and lovely!

I love that song too Caroleeena!
I first heard it on "So You Think You Can Dance" where they did this group dance choreographed by Wade Robson. The dancers were all dressed as zombies and it was really creepy and wonderful!
you can see the video of that performance here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-FV_h5zEs0

I got the album right after that and have enjoyed hooping to that song the most.

Thanks for the recommendation..

I just bought CDs from a guy who does wicked things with a cello.. heard the last two minutes of his set last night and LOVED it, needed to hear more.. not sure if he's up on iTunes, but he's got a site at www.nickogawa.com with sound cliips :) Check him out...

1."what i be" by michael franti - my new favorite hooping song.
2.i'm not a shakira fan, but "hips don't lie" can't be denied.
3."dont change" by erro on beats and pieces (i prefer the remix on osunlade presents the yoruba soul mixes, but it's not available on itunes yet)
4."flawless" (shapeshifter's remix)-george michael
5."Montserrat" by	Orquesta Del Plata	from the album Bajofondo Tango Club (i think it was the music to some car commercial - very dramatic - fabulous to hoop to)
6.of course, xta's and my favorite, "do your thing" by the jaxx
7."Stiff Jazz" by	dZihan & Kamien originally off the album Gran Reserva but available on itunes on the Snow White soundtrack

I like all of these songs already :) I was actually looking at buying Starry Eyed Surprise last week.. might have to do it now.

In order to publish an iMix right onto iTunes for everyone to download, someone would have to own all the songs already, because it gets uploaded from your own playlists in iTunes. I'm not going to promise that I'll buy EVERYTHING that comes up (like, I shouldn't be spending $100 on iTunes), but after a couple weeks, I'm willing to post an iMix of the stuff I do own by then.. and I think we all should :)

Maybe label your iMix as "Hula Hooping with Xta <insert your own name instead of mine!> June 2006" so they'll all show up in the same search?

If any of you are not iTunes-loaded yet, head to the www.apple.com site and download the program for free... once it is running, click on the Music Store button to see how easy it is to actually buy single songs, instead of whole CDs... or instead of illegal file sharing :)

"Starry Eyed Surprise"- It's a Crazy Town song, but I like the Paul Oakenfold re-mix version. It's bouncy and makes me happy!
Oh and "Spin, spin sugar" by the Sneaker Pimps!
I can't wait to add everyone's favorite to my "HoopyMix" playlist!

I love this idea Xta. Girl, you so totally rock. I don't do the iTunes thing yet but I think this is going the be the catalyst for pulling me hooping and poi-ing into the new millenium. Thanks again. I can't wait to see how this list develops. And, once I'm in this millenium, I'll be posting too. (Any tips for getting started?)

Well, like most everybody I have lots of "favourites" and SCI's "Round the Wheel" is one definately one of my hooper "anthems".

But the song that makes me tingle the most when I hoop to it, and gets me really high is,
"Sometimes" by Michael Franti and Spearhead.
It's a song that I've danced to, jumped around to and hooped to at Horning's Hideout, Quincy, Whistler and The Fabulous Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver (Michael Franti sure gets around)
with my closest family and my newest hooper friends.
It's the song that will be my athem for this year when I turn 50 years old and it means a lot to me for so many reasons
Rocking soulfull beats, sweet lyrics and super-positive vibes.
Thank you Michael and thanks to all the freaky, happy and loving people that I have shared with over the last few years.

Here is the chorus:

Sometimes ... I feel like I could do anything
Sometimes ... I'm so alvive
Sometimes ....I feel like I could zoom across the sky
Sometimes ... I wanna cry

Here's the rest of the lyrics:

http://www.freakyandfree.com/lyrics.php?lyric=sometimes

and I've just been hooping and dancing around my living room to this, so the "sometimes" is NOW !!

You read my mind! After the other thread got me good and excited about all the musical possibilities, I thought we should make a hooping classics mix. Can you make the playlist so that we can all see it/buy it?
