The 160 psi is much heavier. To anyone first starting out, I would recommend the heavier tubing available at Lowes (more weight = easier time keeping the hoop up and around your body). Although keep in mind (since this happened to me) that as you progress, you might find the heavier tubing a bit much. Then again, I suppose that all depends on how you wish to hoop or what your style is. When picking up serious speed, the heavier hoops tend to spin even faster, making it easier for everything to lose control. Think Tasmanian devil. Just my experience, anyway. =) I recently bought new tubing off of USplastics, as mentioned above. It's absolutely wonderful, very light and flexible enough for travel/transport.

The Lowe's in San Bruno (just north of the Tanforan shops on El Camino) carries both 100psi 3/4" & 1" and 160psi 3/4" & 1" tubing (they call it utility tubing) in 100ft coils. The 160psi 3/4" is $40 for 100ft and is on aisle 14 to the right when you enter. They also sell bulk connectors for $3 for a pack of 10. I've also heard you can use a wooden dowel and staple it in, but I'm skeptical about that (not to mention you'd have to saw it to the right length). Shepherd was super helpful and said the coils sell like hotcakes, and anyone you ask can tell you where to find "tubing for hula hoops." lowe's in livermore still had it last i checked. just the livermore store though. also, i've got a bit of spare tubing and hoops that i'm willing to sell. 160psi 3/4 inch diameter.

I get mine from usplastics.com -- but I use the 100 psi 1" tubing and connectors. It's quite cheap - I think $22 for 100 feet or something like that. And it's never taken more than three days to get to my house. They don't sell it in hardware stores in NY, either.

At Lowe's hardware chain, they sell 100' coils of 1" poly-vinyl irrigation tubing in 100 and 160 psi. I am assuming Lowes is nationwide...
