Ok, hoopers, I've been exploring my reportire of music. I'm very broad with music that I listen to and discover other style of genre of music. I never really listen to techno, electricno or house music, general.
I was listening to the music on hoop.org and discover my range , in hooping, was easy. I was listening to music I like, like hip hop, crunk music, something that is more urban. I found that I try to dance and the beats are too short, because there is too much bass, where as, house, techno have more stretch, if yall know what I mean, hope so.
Anyway, I'm more capable stretching and moving more swiftly with my body and FEELING. Well, this is a particular song...I LOVE...I feel the range, the lyric and the mood of the song, sometimes EMOTION.
I'm trying to learn how to cherograph a dance, so I can learn moves, range and beats of the song, that way, I become more comfortable dancing with the hoop. As a beginner, It will become a LIBERATION AND GROWTH.
I'm going to dedicate dancing and proficently move gracefully to a song...
I think this is a great beginner style song to start with...I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH...SO MUCH FEELING..I'm gonna post it on youtube, once I learn the movements and share.

My question, what song you felt more connected ,more feeling and emotion while hooping? That only YOU felt the connection and MOVE you, to oblivion. if so, what song and who is it by...
if there is a video to that song, share it....

Re: HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN DANCING....
Sat, June 28, 2008 - 4:02 PMWhat a great post! The feeling is mutual, hoopdancing is an incredible feeling and there are so many songs out there that draws out the best of how I feel...it really depends on my mood. Sometimes I feel like grooving to the 80s, R&B, pop, world music, African drums, electronic music, and even jazz! There are songs that tickle my heart, brings a big smile to my face, gives me a lift and really elevates my spirit. I love Kaskade's "4 AM", Cyndi Lauper's "Into the Night", Mary J. Blige's "Just Fine", Alicia Mathewson's album "Winds of Sinai", Norah Jone's "Come Away with Me" & "Don't Know Why", Mother Amma's 2007 & 2008 World Tour album, Samantha James' "Rise", Lovetronic's "You are Love", Madonna's "Hung-Up", many songs from Shanti, Vibrasphere and Protoculture, and so many more. I just dig songs that have a range of bouncy playfulness and flirtatiousness, eclectic electronica (electro/psy/house/porgressive/breaks/yummy baselines), or just pure vocals. World music really moves me too, and when combined with electronic beats, like Rara Avis's music, I'm thrilled!
When my heart's tickled the energy just skyrockets!
Hoopdancing creates pure ecstasy. =)

Re: HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN DANCING....
Sat, June 28, 2008 - 8:33 PMI love the song "Unwritten" by Natasha Beddingfield. I like everything about it -- the melody. the tempo, her voice and most especially the words, which I find very inspirational. It was the first song I filmed myself hooping to when I finally got a video camera. The video is not very good. I drop it a lot but you can see how much I love this song. Here's the video: www.youtube.com/watch -

Sat, June 28, 2008 - 9:18 PMLOL...I LOOOOVE IT!!!! I can tell you were having so much fun, but most importantly, you were really feeling the words. I can tell the dance routine were inspire by the words. I love the part, when it part says,"let the rain", it pause for a second, then you tap the hoop on the floor, it was poignant.
OH... I didn't mind your singing;)
THANKS FOR SHARING

Re: HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN DANCING....
Sun, June 29, 2008 - 1:59 PMYes, I wish I had more videos with all of the songs mentioned, but I do have a couple. I find I can get to that Amazing space with any type of music, there are songs that just make me want to get up and dance! Though personally, hooping hasn't been dependent on a song as much as it is about tapping into that sweet feeling through movement. And when I'm at a club and the music just doesn't move me, I just get into my hoop and suddenly the same song is off the hook! lol Sometimes, it just takes a partner to stir things up. =)
Here are a couple of videos I've posted with melodies that just pull at my heart strings
From last fall. An old old song with a voice that moved me deeply
iiO "Rapture": youtube.com/watch
From a couple of years ago with some basic moves that were still rocky but man oh man was I in Love with this song! I really had a great silly time in this one
Protoculture "Out of Reality": youtube.com/watch
A song that I enjoy more for its funky baselines that makes me wanna connect to the earth =)

Re: HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN DANCING....
Mon, June 30, 2008 - 2:28 AMI remember that Sunday Hooping video. Even after all this time, and out of all the videos I've seen, that one stands out in my mind as unique and beautiful. It has such a light happy feel to it, so innocent and sweet. It was nice to see it again. I hadn't seen the other two. They're great also. You just keep getting better and better. It's fun to watch your progress. I like your songs too, especially that song Rapture. I'm going to try to find that song to buy it right now. I also love that dance space, the one where you write, "It's cold in LA". How lucky you are to have such a great space. And your outfit in that video is rocking too! So fun. So skilled. Such a joy. On every level. -

Mon, June 30, 2008 - 9:24 AMYes, light and happy for sure! Thanks for watching and sharing C =)
That dance space is one of the studios I teach out of. It is super cozy and the vibe there is great...if you're ever in LA we can play there. ;}
You might be able to find the track at www.lavamus.com/ in addition to iTunes. I was introduced to Lava Music by a friend who swears by it. They have a limited selection of tracks, mostly older stuff the last time I looked which is why I thought iiO might be available there.
Have fun!

Re: HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN DANCING....
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 12:34 AMHONEY CHILD....THAT'S ONE OF THE VIDEO I SAW BEFORE BEING A MEMBER OF THIST TRIBE. It was one of the video, I feel in love while looking at other hoop videos...IT WAS BREATH TAKING...especially with the dress...like a fairytale.
I was a new come hooper, while searching on youtube, AND BABY....I LOVE YOUR VIDEO!!! It was heartfelt and REAL, AND I knew you enjoyed yourself, not saying the other wasn't good, but that one was FELT... that's make a person WANT to become a hooper.
I know singers and dancer are GOOD and AWESOME, but they INNATE a special emotion like crying, being sexy or sensual, happy or sad or WHATEVER....THAT ONE SONG....that made it....incredible and speechless, that everyone...was like.....DANG....I FELT THAT... -

Re: HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN DANCING....
Sun, June 29, 2008 - 6:22 AMI just love to dance with my hoops. I have become a music junkie as a result. I'll dance to almost anything and it really depends on my mood what I choose. If I get the music choice wrong for my mood I get frustrated and annoyed. So I either change it or stop and come back later.
Therefore I can't answer your question because all types of music have given me joy in the hoop at different times and stages of my learning. Sometimes I want fast, fast, fast, but others I want melodic or soothing, sometimes fun and sometimes slow.
Not only has the hoop given me movement, flexibility and fun, it has given me such a huge appreciation of all music. I didn't really bother much with music before. Now I have a fast growing collection!

Re: HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN DANCING....
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 12:00 PMThe song that stands out most for me as having been part of a moving hoop experience is "Now We Are Free" by Lisa Gerrard (NOT Enya, although lots of people think it's her...all those breathy European singers sound the same). It's actually from the Gladiator soundtrack, but the song means a lot to me A) because it's beautiful, B) because it was a song from a very emotional religious retreat that I went on, and C) because of this one hooping experience.
It wasn't much on the outside, really. I had just come out as bisexual to my closest friend at college - my high school friends have all known for a while - and she was having a really hard time dealing with it. I had that stomach-dropped-out, can't focus can't loosen your muscles type feeling; it was like quietly panicking all day. She was just being uncommunicative and I had no idea what was going on in her mind, plus she was the first person I had told at college, and I was wondering how I'd ever have the strength to tell everyone.
So instead of dancing to the loud, clubby, bass-heavy stuff I usually hoop to, I put on a more meditative playlist with this song at the end. Through the whole session I just kept worrying, I couldn't concentrate on the music. It was like it wasn't loud enough to block out my brain. But when this song came on I slowed down, really breathed, and really listened.
The interesting thing about this song is that the "words" have no meaning - it's not another language, it's actually a sort of gibberish. So instead of blocking things out I just opened up and let myself be worried, let myself be comforted by the song and the memories I associate with it, and by the end I felt calm and strong, ready to deal with the situation.
And for the record, my friend has dealt with whatever her discomfort was and now we're basically all good :D happy endings, whee!
Anyway, here's the link: youtube.com/watch -

Re: HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN DANCING....
Thu, July 3, 2008 - 1:42 PMWow, Katie, thank-you for sharing that story...
That music is VERY emotional. I can just imagine hooping with those emotion, you felt that day. I can kinda invision your movements, even though, I have never seen you hoop. I like the way the music started slow, and then, around 2:00, the tempo pick up...(I can see you getting down..lol), and then it slow back down.
Thanks once again. Music is so powerful, especially in the moment you need it.
LOVE THE SONG...
