DiY LED Hula Hoop Instructions

Some super-savvy DiY-er has posted detailed instructions over at instructables.com for how to build a simple LED Hula Hoop. It's not weight-distributed as the batteries are all in one spot and the LEDs, the way he did them, are non-programmable and just 'always on', but the cost was in the neighborhood of about $15.

Some experience with simple electronics and/or LEDs is helpful, but really not totally required, I'd say. There are tons of other sites that should be able to help with the basics of the wiring job at hand. (If you've ever used el-wire or made throwies, ya should be golden. If not, google around a tad or ask in one of the more electronically-oriented tribes for some assistance, maybe.)

The end result is not super-fancy, but for those of us currently on a bitch of a budget, this could be a nice alternative!

Yeah i have been thinking about making one of these for a while now. I have a psi hoop but i think that one of these would be nice to have also. I think it would give a different feel to the psi hoop and i would not be worried about lending it out to people. Only problem is I think that the pipe i use for my hoops would be way to skinny to fint the batterys and houseing in.
Well i'm gonna have a go any way, will report back with the results.

What about a 9-volt? If that'd fit, maybe you could rig it for a 9-volt instead? I mean, hell, if throwies only use watch batteries, there has to be a way to reduce battery space/size requirement. Might mean changing it more often, but having a loan-able LED hoop would surely rock.

YOu can find all of those things at most electronic supply stores. Here in australia there is one called dicksmiths but i'm not sure of any else where. YOu should also be able to find them on sale on the interweb as they are fairly standard electronic parts.

There are lots of fantastic colours of leds you can use as well.
