i just can't seem to do "that" trick!!

so for the last couple months I've been trying and trying to do the bent-over-behind-the-back-elbow-to-elbow-pass. i can get it on one elbow no problem, but then it would just fly away when i'd try and pass it to the other. i had learned the standing-behind-the-back-elbow-to-elbow-pass relatively easily, but doing it bent over has eluded me for what seems like forever. but i've kept practicing and practicing, and last night out of the blue i was able to do it successfully with some regularity.

just wanted to throw out some support to all ya'll feeling frustrated about not being able to do this trick or that one, and to keep practicing and don't give up. sounds lame, but i know i get pretty frustrated when i can't figure something out. shit, it took me almost a year to figure out how to get it over my head, so i have to remind myself to not get so frustrated with the more spectacular tricks and to just have fun and feel the flow :)

thank you. I wish I had you with me whenever I'm asked to show someone "how" to do something. It seems impossible for some people to understand that I can't just "give" the secret to them ... sometimes it truly is just practice practice practice. I get upset when someone gets frustrated with ME when they are unable to do something. I always tell everyone that I spent 4 solid months cursing and bruised trying to get the darn thing up from my knees - but sometimes they just don't believe me and think I'm like holding out on telling them how to do it or something.

anyway - THANK YOU for sharing. and I'm currently in my third month of trying to get that behind the back elbow to elbow pass ... can do it one out of maybe 20 tries as of last weekend ;)

Rob has totally figured that trick out. Maybe he'll bless us with some tips? The only time I've ever been able to do it was once at the park when I said, "And there's this weird over the shoulder thing? I totally can't do it." Then I did it. WTF?

Well, not exactly...I do a similar trick that rolls from one shoulder to the other over my back while bent forward; The hoop seems to roll over my back. The trick they're talking about is from one elbow to the other presumably not touching the body, which I can't really nail predictably.

I can offer some advice for the elbow trick:

-Use the elbow's motion / momentum to pass the hoop from one to the other
-Bend over until perpendicular with the floor, try not to arch your back
-While bent over you can twist your torso, first to your left and then as you pass the hoop twist to your right (reverse for lefties)

The trick I do which is similar is almost impossible to explain, a lot of it is timing and practice.

      Hope that helps...

I was playing with it during my hoop session this morning.. the one thing I noticed made the biggest difference in being able to suddenly do it was that I started paying attention to the PLANE the hoop was moving in...

Elbow hooping behind the back, the hoop is on a vertical plane... hand hooping above your head, the hoop is on a horizontal plane.... for the bent-over version, try getting infront of a window or other reflective surface, figure out the angle of the plane that your body creates in the bent over position, and then get the hoop spinning in that plane BEFORE you start hooking your elbows in...

Made the difference for me, good luck!

          X.
