USPS damaging Hoops!

I have been havin lots of problems lately with USPS.

I've been mailing hoops for some time now, trying different things to package my hoops and it seems like no matter what i do, usps has a nice little way of doing things to my hoops!!!!

I've tried craft paper, packaging plastic, super thick garbage bags cut into strips and then taping the heck out of it, and now I use bubble wrap.

I spend A LOT of money on packaging supplies, tape to wrap over the bubblewrap and then I insure all my hoops.

Lately my problems have been, hoops arriving with little to no bubble wrap, leaving the hoop scuffed terribly!
bubble wrap will get holes in it and then there is holes in the tape
or a hoop arriving smooshed!!! I try to explain that the tubing is really flexible and can be re-shaped but when you talk to some people who just can't get it, then they are left with a hoop that is bent out of shape!

Why am I spending all this money on insurance ($1.75 - $2.25 each)
it seems that once I started insuring the hoops the more problems I'm having, ho hum

Any one else have this problem, have a solution for me?

I'm tired of sending replacement tape pieces and dealing with usps and the way they treat my products I spend so much time on.

I give USPS over a $1000 a month, you would think they would give ME more respect.

Have yoi looked int FedEx ground? I wonder if the cost would be comparable.

Also, I have found in my days as an ebay seller, that when I would insure anything it assured that it would arrive damaged. The jerks at the PO see the insurance tag and think it is time to play :/

If it helps any, my Bodyhoops hoop came double wrapped. It had a first layer of bubblewrap on it that was taped up pretty well, then a second layer over that, also taped well. It arrived in excellent shape.

Fed Ex is not in my area, but it migh be benificial to look into them and see what it would take for a carrier to come 1 - 2 times a week.

that's my conclusion too, that they see the insurance tag and think they can do whatever.

If someone dropped off an item to me that was damaged as bad as I had the one returned to me today, I would have thrown a fit.

that is helpful! Maybe I'll stop insuring them, and if someone wants it they can have and if they decide they don't want it then, it's their fault.

And just keep the same shipping price and wrap the heck out of it. 2 layers seems like a better idea.

I wish you didn't have to work on friday...I'd love to show you some things and show you how I was going to tape your hoop.
Thought that would have been a cool idea!

      thanks for your insight!

Hmmmm.... I've shipped quite a bit of hoops through USPS and never had a problem with damage. I wrap my hoop in 3 layers. The first layer is saran wrap, 2'nd newspaper, then 3'rd brown packaging paper. The newspaper is what gives it the padding. I cut the strip of brown packaging paper into long strips about 4-6 inches across, then I wrap it around the newspaper like I'm decorating a hoop.

Never had a problem. Knock on wood. :)

how much are you charging for your supplies, shipping, and time putting into all that wrapping care?

are you shipping priority or parcel post?

I ship mine in two layers. First, bubble wrap. Then, brown craft paper to protect the bubble wrap. I charge $10 for shipping regular hoops (sometimes it costs a bit more, but sometimes less, so I figure it evens out).

The only problem I have had is when I shipped a 48inch hoop and it arrived bent. Now I just always make my large hoops collapsible and ship them collapsed.

If you keep having problems, you could consider only making collapsible hoops and shipping them in a box. You might be able to make your own, or you can order custom box sizes on the internet. It gets a bit expensive if you need a lot of boxes though.

Oh! And I always ship priority mail.

Lately I have had problems with USPS even wanting to ship my hoops. I posted about this last week. Other than that - I have moved to FedEx which is $17 per hoop but has tracking and gets there in 2 days.

I feel like we should all start boycotting USPS. They are becoming extremely hoop unfriendly!

Add on another layer to USPS hostility. They're no inspecting media mail packages to insure they're "media" (cd's, dvd's sheet music, cassette tapes, etc). If your packaged doesn't meet specs, they'll send it back, AND CAHRGE YOU THE DIFFERENCE for priority mail to get it back, THEN you still have to resend.

Do you think it would help to write "Fragile" on the packages, i havent had to ship hoops yet, all my sales are local, so its really just a suggestion. Sorry thats happening Kendra.... Love you!

I've been using FedEx to ship all of my LED Hoops, wrapped with bubble wrap and clear packing tape. The cost is usually around $16-17 and the hoops always arrive in 2 days. Both USPS & UPS were not very friendly or helpful when I inquired about shipping my hoops through them, but the folks at my local FedEx have been fantastic and they always seem happy to see me when I come in with a hoop to ship :)
