Soo, I've been pondering taking a position at a gym, but I am nervous about creating a resume. I taught a fitness class at my undergrad school, but that's my only institutional credit... I have, however, taught a lot of people individually and privately.
Has anyone else created a hoop resume? How do you list private/ home lessons without giving out personal info (client's address, phone #, etc)? What other experience (aside from teaching a class) should be listed??
Thanks for any advice!!

I've made a hoop resume to give to venues and clubs when I try and book gigs. I added the jobs I've held before that don't relate to hoopdancing just for some stability in the resume. The main thing in my resume is the list of all my past performances. List any event that you've performed at! It creates a nice long list and looks good (at least I think it does...) For example, this is my performance list:
Sigel Idol Talent Show – 1st place winner
Graham Central Station – Bellbottom club room, Wildcat bar room
Coyote Ugly Panama City Beach – 2009
Murfreesboro Main Street Jazz Fest – 2008, 2009
First Friday Concerts on the Square – 2008, 2009
LOL House Parties
Club Catalyst – Knoxville
Judge Eric Maxwell’s 50th Birthday Bash – Peachtree City
Tennessee Renaissance Festival – May 2009
Lux Aeterna Fire Tribe Shows – Knoxville
Paul Oakenfold – Bonnaroo 2009
MGMT – Bonnaroo 2009
Private Parties – Murfreesboro, Knoxville, Nashville
R.A.G.B.R.A.I. Team Roadshow performances – 2008, 2009
Maybe it's a bit dishonest...of course MGMT and Paul Oakenfold did not hire me to perform for them at Bonnaroo. However, I felt like I had a huge crowd at both venues and did a really good show for the audience.
I'm low on money and desperate to get work...so I fluffed it a bit. The rest is completely legit, in that I was asked or hired to perform at the venue. I don't know...is this wrong? Or is it ok to buff up your resume? -

Re: Making a Resume
Wed, October 21, 2009 - 10:26 AMI think for action jobs, like teaching/performing hooping, a list of where/when you've done it in the past is less useful than a description of what you do, how you approach it, etc. It strays from the standard resume layout, but this is a pretty non-standard job market.
If you're trying to build yourself a professional reputation, try to avoid anything that will cause you grief in the future, like getting caught in a lie. I'd just leave it as "Bonnaroo" :)

Re: Making a Resume
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 9:49 AMThanks for the advice; that makes me feel a bit better. I think that I ill try to catch the potential employers in person to do a little performance for them; that may be more helpful than trying to stack a standard resume.
Thanks for your input; it really helped. :)

Mon, October 26, 2009 - 9:51 AMGood idea. I will list other jobs as well, just to be on the safe side. I like the "Private Parties - " I think that that will be enough for an employer and if they want more info, I'll give it to them. :)

Re: Making a Resume
Sun, November 15, 2009 - 8:11 AMAs to fluffing, most do it but actually putting names down as those who hired is probably an overfluff and can bite you in the ass if it's a person who actually checks or happens to know the person. If the performance was impromptu or semi organized, list it but list it as the venue not connected to someone who didn't hire you unless they are willing to say they "hired" ya. Small world ya know.

Mon, November 16, 2009 - 5:08 PMHow do you even get hired to hoop at places? Do you have to be super incredible?
