I've been looking at a lot of photo albums recently of Hoopgirl, Hoopalicious, Hooplur, SilverStarry, and so on, and I felt a certain sense of loneliness. I'm the only hooper I know other than the Hooprama hoopers in Nashville, but now I live in Knoxville. I've heard of other hoopers here in K-Town, but it's hard to get where they meet because I don't have a car and live solely on campus. I have an intense desire to be a part of a hoop group with others who are as good or better than me at hooping...I really want to be challenged. I just think it would be an incredible experience to be able to hoopdance with others. I did it once for one evening while I was on a trip in Iowa. I was part of a performing troupe of jugglers, unicyclers, fire breathing, and some poi-ers. Anyway, I was finding a spot for us to do a set that night when I saw a couple girls walking across the street with some hoops. I freaked out and ran across the road to talk to them, and we ended up performing together that night. It was so incredible and I was so blissfully fulfilled. I really wish I could have that again! I'll try to do better at reaching other hoopers here or calling them to a jam. Any thoughts?

Re: Loneliness...
Sun, November 16, 2008 - 6:53 PMI don't have any helpful thoughts, only that I feel a lot like you! I live in colorado and the only group I know of here is the Kaivalya hoopers who are REALLY good and I think the reason why they are so few is cause it is so damn cold here in the winter. But keep trying and networking ya know. Maybe see if you can find a hoop class to meet people and start your own. :-D

Re: Loneliness...
Sun, November 16, 2008 - 7:21 PMGlenda, try & connect with Brooke, a K-ville hooper who is often present here on tribe. You can find her in my friends & send her a message. I'm sure she would be happy to connect you up with a local hoop scene! She teaches classes there and apparently a lot of her students are university students too. Let us know how it goes!

Re: Loneliness...
Tue, November 18, 2008 - 12:24 PMI feel ya! I'm in Murfreesboro, which is only 30 mins away from Nashville but when you want to hoop right away, it can seem a lot further. Glenda, I'm originally from Maryville (outside of Knoxville); I don't know of any hoopers there off the top of my head, but if I hear about any from my friends, I'll let you know.
By the way, how often do you come back to Nashville? I don't get out to Maryville/Knoxville much, but we may have to get together sometime. :-) -

Re: Loneliness...
Fri, November 28, 2008 - 2:51 PMOne of the amazing things my roommate did was start a hoop 'class' at her collage. She had at space at her gym and would have it weekly. Several kids came by, and no two classes were the same.
Or just hoop outside your dorm with some spare hoops lying about. Curiosity is always a good opener.
