I know some of you out there are hooping with your IPOD, yes? Where do you put it? When I put it in my jeans pocket (front or back) the hoop hits it and turns the volume waaaay up or down. Where can I put it so it won't get in the way?
Thanks!

Re: Hooping with IPOD
Fri, May 26, 2006 - 12:56 AMBuy travel speakers that use AA batteries so your ipod doesn't have to be on you (Altec Lansing IM3 or Logitech).

Sandisk
Fri, May 26, 2006 - 5:55 AMI bought the clip thingy and I wear my sandisk on my headband, just behind my left ear. That seems to be the spot that gets hit the least.
This model has the earphones plug coming out of the end, and the plug is vulnerable to strikes. I made a protective cap for it out of a softish bottle top so that the bottle top gets hit and not the plug itself. (Almost broke the MP3 player before I rigged up this little addition, so it's a non-trivial point.)
I don't want speakers broadcasting music to my neighbors at night when I'm hooping. Some of them are shift workers and get up way earlier than I think is decent.
At one point when I needed to catch a phone call, I wore my cell phone alternatively on my hairclip/ponytail, and on the strap of my sandal. Neither was very comfortable. Don't think they make cords long enough to clip a player to your shoes... -

Re: Sandisk
Fri, May 26, 2006 - 8:55 AMI usually just tuck it inside my waistband.. with the lock on so the volume doesn' t get adjusted.
I don't spend a lot of time with the hoop around my waist, so it doesn' t affect me too much, but if I DO want to be working waist/hip stuff, I've clipped it inside my neckline.. looks funny, but is functional enough :)

***** WARNING ******
Fri, May 26, 2006 - 3:01 PMBe very carefull not to damage your precious mp3 player.
There are 2 types of player on the market.
The larger capacity players (i.e. 10, 20 and 30 gig players) are HARD DRIVE players. Inside these players is a spinning hard drive. If you read the booklet that came with it you will see that the manufacturers clearly state that the player should not be bumped around (such as jogging etc.)
Other mp3 players (the smaller capacity ones) are FLASH drive players. There are no moving parts in these players and they can take a beating (jogging, hooping, crashing your mountain bike etc.)
I bought a 512mb FLASH player specifically for hooping. The capacity is small but it only has my fav. hooping tunes on it and is usually on shuffle play, so I get lots of variety during my 30 minute hooping workout.
I also have a larger hard drive player that I use daily, on the bus, while travelling etc.
Here is more info from this link:

(I'm not posting this info to bash iPod, just to show the info re. hard drive players)
"Jogging with a hard drive-based player is not cool."
The iPod and other high-capacity MP3 players use hard drives to store music. In order to extend battery life and avoid skipping, the hard drives turn on only every once in a while to fill up a flash-memory buffer, which itself has no potentially skipping, moving parts. The flash buffer, in turn, plays the music. If something jars a hard drive-based player at the precise moment when the hard drive is spinning to load the flash buffer, the player could skip. Some experts say that it's impossible to damage the drive in this way, but I'm not buying that--hard drives spin thousands of times per minute, and they have tiny, fragile parts. Instead, use a small flash player, such as something from the iRiver iFP-3xx line. They won't skip, the batteries last longer, and they're much lighter than the iPod.
p.s. I wear my flash player in a pouch around my neck (above my chest) -

Re: ***** WARNING ******
Fri, May 26, 2006 - 6:30 PMI wear an iPod Nano on a clip on my waist and thread the headphone cord up under my shirt to keep it out of the way. That's worked OK, but it was important to have headphones that aren't the pluggy things; they were pulled out by the hoop dragging on the cords. Boyfriend gave me his old Sony's that have that loop behind the ear thing, and those stay on well, but I *have* hit them with the hoop before. So far, no damage to any equipment. BTW, the clip holder for my nano is a neoprene one that protects the nano pretty well from shock. -

Hooping with iPod
Fri, May 26, 2006 - 7:10 PMI tie my ipod shuffle around my pony tail in my hair. Its pretty easy coz shuffles are small.. but i dont know about anything bigger... i guess clippin em onto a headband or hat would work. Or just buy a itrip with a portable stereo... -

Re: Hooping with iPod
Sat, May 27, 2006 - 9:12 AMOooo! Thanks for that idea. I hoop with my iPod shuffle (which is a flash drive player for those interested), but I always put it in my pocket. I like the idea of putting it somewhere where it won't get hit by the hoop (or get hit as much with the hoop). I will give it a try today.

Sun, May 28, 2006 - 8:26 AMyah! my flash player is the iPod shuffle too.
Addie's idea of holding the shuffle in your hair is very cute (and practical).
Music in jah dreads !!!
Made me smile :-) -

Re: Hooping with iPod
Sun, May 28, 2006 - 10:40 PMBetter the intentional storing of things there, than unintentional... a friend of mine regularly goes over my chest with a lint brush before I leave after dinner, making sure that I don't go out with crumbs on my "shelf" :)

Re: Hooping with IPOD

i usually hoop with my ipod shuffle. I often hoop in the park with my baseball cap and tuck the shuffle in the brim or tuck it into the side of my bandana. Sometimes I will tuck my shuffle into the rubberband in my ponytail or into the strap of my sports bra on my shoulder. Hope this helps.
