I have a horrible sunburn, i hoop everynight and if i stop tonight, well that only gives me a reason to stop in the future. i have strict hooping rules with myself.
well the only thing not fried to a crisp is my legs...and i need some help.
ive been working on hooping with my knees and bringing a leg out and then putting it back in.
i can get my leg out, but i cant get it back in and keep the hoop going, anyone have any advice, and videos on this?

Re: help with a leg trick.
Mon, July 24, 2006 - 1:28 PMIf you can get your leg out, you can get it back in. :) Try slowing down the hoop so the opening for your leg to get back in stays "open" longer. It really just takes a lot of practice and a lot of bruises.
In the meantime, practice hooping on your one leg to improve balance. Move your arms around, too, so you can hoop one-legged and still make arm movements.....
Good luck! -

Re: help with a leg trick.
Mon, July 24, 2006 - 4:12 PMAlso, when you try to bring that leg back in, so it while the negative space of the hoop is in front of you and (for me anyway--everyone's different), I like to stick my foot in with the toes pointed so the hoop kind of rolls over the top of my foot and give it a nudge up with your toes before putting your leg down in it so it usually ends up on my hips/butt. This way you don't have to do that super fast shimmy trying to get back in and keep going way down there on your knees. I think I may have a video that shows this. I'll check and get back to you. -

Re: help with a leg trick.
Mon, July 24, 2006 - 4:37 PMI also sometimes hook the hoop with my toes as I stick my leg back in, but just to give it a slight nudge up and forward to get it going again (if it has slowed down a lot while my leg was out). I don't nudge it too high because I like doing that super fast shimmy up! To each her/his own. :)
Another thing is that when you stick your leg back in, if it has slowed down and you feel it falling, you can pop it forward with your knee. I hoop counterclockwise, so I use my right knee to give it nudges forward. Good luck!

Tue, July 25, 2006 - 12:39 AMYep i totaly agree with the other points made. but also found that once i had lernt how to kick up the hoop from the ground putting my leg back in became a lot easier.
Beacuse really it is just i little version of the kick up. -

Re: help with a leg trick.
Sat, July 29, 2006 - 10:10 AMTry putting your "out' foot against the front of your knee, toe pointed to the ground... practice spotting the HOLE of the hoop as it is coming in front of you, then slide the foot quickly down your other leg when the hole is just arriving in front...
... if you're like me, it will drop a ton of times, and then you'll catch it on your toe a ton of times and make it wobble and drop, and then catch it, make it wobble but NOT drop, and eventually be able to get your leg back in cleanly 90% of the time (that's where I'm at right now...)...
Being able to catch it on your toe and wobble but NOT drop is the part that is used for the ground-up kick start... Choose the leg you want to balance on, set the hoop up on top of that foot with the hole of the hoop behind you, use the heel of your other foot to quickly kick it backwards, then dip that toe in to bump it up to your knees!
Good luck...

Sat, August 5, 2006 - 8:00 PMThanks girl, you make it so easy...its so so hard of a trick... I have tried so hard my knee is so brusied I have to wait a bit and try again... its so hard when you do put your foot back in down pointed it so wants to drop fast... I just I just have to be even faster...is it better for the hoop to be going slow or faster any differnt on keeping it up? -

Re: help with a leg trick.
Sat, August 5, 2006 - 8:11 PMIf you're having problems with the hoop hitting your foot before you've got it all the way down, then that is a timing issue that may be helped by having a slower moving hoop so you can see just when the "hole" starts to open for you to slip your foot in, almost anticipating it instead of seeing and reacting and then moving too late...
If you're having problems with the hoop losing momentum once your foot is in, then think about speeding the hoop up by pushing at 2:00 and 8:00 or 1:00 and 7:00 (if your hoop is spinning counterclockwise, 10:00 and 4:00 or 11:00 and 5:00 if you're spinning clockwise) - not an active, move-your-foot push, but that's where you apply pressure with the front of one leg, and then the back of the other leg.
Patience is one of the greatest lessons hooping can teach us!
Be kind to your body - bruises need healing time, too!
Good luck :)
