Anybody know where I can pick up some poly tubing to make some hoops? I can't find any in a high enough PSI! oh the frustration!

Thu, August 31, 2006 - 7:28 AMI think if we all asked enough, they'd be willing to order us in some 100 psi too! The sales people really liked us hoopers. I think it's because we're all cute and smiley about the tubing, much different than the average home improvement customer. -

Re: Poly Tubing
Thu, August 31, 2006 - 3:49 PMI didn't know (until Brendan so kindy pointed out!) that what Americans call 3/4" tubing is actually the same size as 1" tubing in Canada. I always wondered why my hoops were skinnier at all the Cheese shows! Thanks Brendan! lol -

Re: Poly Tubing
Fri, September 1, 2006 - 1:52 AMevery SCI show I have this conversation:
cute american hooper says "that's not 3/4" 160 psi"
I reply "but, believe me, that is what's printed on the outside"
A.H. "but THIS is 3/4 160 psi and it's not the same as yours .... but hey! I like your hoops, thanks for bringing 'em"
The "water service tubing" we are using is 3/4" diameter measured from the outside of the tubing.
In US the 3/4" designation applies to the bore.
our 3/4" 160psi is nice stuff ... it's heavy, but thinner than the US stuff so it moves faster through the air,
problem is we can't get plastic slip-in connectors as building regulations here require a bolt-on metal connector (no good for hooping) and so we improvise.
I now have hoops made from both batches.
Is there anyone in Eastern Washington that can help Cass find some US tubing close to her home in Nelson, BC ???
(hey Cass, be my tribe friend ??) -

Wed, February 14, 2007 - 1:24 PMWhat would you recommend then for a connector? Because I'm planning on making my first hoop at some point in the near future, and I know I saw the tubing on my last trip to my local Home Depot, but I wasn't thinking about connectors at the time. -

Re: Poly Tubing
Sat, April 21, 2007 - 10:58 AMLittle late, but I just figured this out!
At home depot, there are brass connectors with double-barb just like the plastic, and they fit snuggly inside the 3/4" tubing. They don't fit tight enough to hold together when hooping, but I put them in and taped the eff out of the joint it and it works great! You could also use some glue in the joint if you want irreversible results :)

Fri, September 1, 2006 - 8:23 AMOMGosh!!!!!!! Yes, yes, yes!!!!! I've been wanting to try a lighter hoop. I have tape and I can give you some funds for tubing and connector and we can mix and match tape collections! -
