Does anyone have any experience with them?

I was pricing staffs for my boyfriend and I found this: www.luxotica.com/shop/detail.cfm

Which would be really awesome but only if the hoop is worth it. There's really not much info about them on the site itself. So has anyone had the balls to buy one themselves? Have you used a friends? What do you think?

I've looked at those also, the 6 leds ... imo wouldn't be glowy enough for me so I'd have to get one with more in it like the 18.

    They are made by www.lightupandjuggle.com/store/index.php
And you an get different light numbers and patterns options also. The Spinsterz also carry them.

If you do get one, give details. I love the idea of a collapsable led hoop.

Thanks for your response. If I went with this package I'd definitely go for the 6 extra LEDs.

Just curious, how do you know that these are the same ones as the link you posted? I e-mailed them but they still haven't responded.

Looking again, it doesn't mention collapsible... I blame not enough coffee at the time lmao

No one has mentioned them that I can remember. I would be afraid that they may not be that nice. I did try a 6 led collapsable hoop when I was looking to buy an led hoop. I didn't like the feel of it at all, small, hard and most unspectacular. But then, we've realised that the 6 light led collapsible isn't the same as this one.

Have you thought about getting the ProdMod kit and making up your own? ProdMod provides all the bits, even the tubing if you want him to, and I've seen people say that they have put theirs together in a short time with no experience of electronics or even much DIY. It might be a more reliable way to go because there are people reviewing them and making them etc. I can't say from experience yet as my kit is in the post at this time. But Echo Raven likes them and will now make them up for you if you don't want to do it yourself.

So what is everyone's opinion about the LED hoops? Ohio is having their blackouts (my mom has power and I have been chilling at her house of lately) and am really thinking about investing. What a better time to invest than a blackout?

There are many discussions of this topic. My advice is don't buy a generic or 'just any' l.e.d. hoop. I decided to get a p.s.i. for my birthday and I love it. It is the best toy I have ever had.

This is the one I was talking about , for some reason the mention of the 6 leds automatically made me think of this one they carry thats made by light up and juggle. ( which it still may be that one since it's the only led hoop they list on the site but it didn't mention collapsible on the bundle page)
And it's the only one that I know of off hand that comes with only 6.
That will teach me to read and type that early in the morning lol

This collapsible 6- LED hoop is sold in five locations that I know of. They are all the same hoop, manufactured by Lightupandjuggle.com. Lightupandjuggle is in Canada, so you will likely pay more shipping if buying from there. Lightupandjuggle and Flammaaeterna also each offer the 12 and 18 LED options. Prices listed below.

      6-LEDs:
      Lightupandjuggle.com: $130
      Luxotica.com: $150
      TheSpinsterz.com: $125
      Renegadejuggling.com: $120
      Flammaaeterna.com: 129.99

      12-LEDs
      Lightupandjuggle.com:190.00
      Flammaaeterna.com: 179.99

      18-LEDs:
      Lightupandjuggle.com: 220.00
      Flammaaeterna.com: 219.99

Or hey, you can always buy a Superhoop with 20 LEDs for $95-$185. superhooper.org/getahoop.html

      Hope that helps,

    Hi all,

Came across this thread, and if you have any questions, we do retail this hoop, and I can answer in some detail. Our site should do a pretty good job of covering the particulars, as well.

    www.flammaaeterna.com/p-645-l...ble.aspx

    The 6-LED is $119.99.

As far as quick responses to other comments, it does break down into three sections (does the Superhoop break down, for my own education?) and I would definitely go with 12 or 18 LEDs if you are going to be showing off a lot. Our version has a quick disconnect, so none of those crazy pins that are impossible to get out. Since this is a manufacturing change we pushed back onto the manufacturer, it is possible everyone's are quick disconnect now.

And, as far as my opinion, I am a slow hooper, and these are slow hoops, so they work well for me. I have heard of people drilling holes to speed them up, but they are larger than our practice hoops. I also like the customization options. While we only have 4 options on our site, it is really possible to combine sections from similar hoops or order a custom hoop at no appreciable additional cost. Lastly, I don't carry a solid hoop anywhere with me; if it doesn't break down, I don't own one, generally speaking.

I really like my LED. I got it from

    ledheadyhoops.com/

Its collaspable and rechargable and its not too thick to toss and stuff like that. Its sized very close to the thickness of the irrigation tubing. I got the small one and I love it, but I think I want the bigger one too. I dont always have the energy for the little one. There are different sizes and choices of how many lights. But I have to say that I have a big 20+ light hoop from another company and its way too heavy, thick and the batteries are hard to find and very expensive. Which really sucks because it was over 200$. My Heady Hoop was around 120$ with shipping.

More kudos for Heady Hoops... a friend of mine has one, and I'm ordering one soon too. I love, love, love my PSI - but if you're on a budget and want a quality hoop, then I would recommend Heady. Internal switch, good price, bright lights, collapsible, rechargeable.

I was lucky enough to inherit a couple of hoops, hoop-making materials and the Luxotica LED hoop from a lovely girl that was moving from LA and unable to take it all with her. I was particularly excited about the Luxotica hoop because i didn't want to take my brand new psi hoop to burning man. The only thing that the girl mentioned was that the batteries had to be replaced in the LED hoop. It was only 6 months old and the batteries already had to be replaced (and she said she hadn't even used it that much!) This didn't seem like too big a deal because I was getting a free LED hoop. However, I didn't realize that it took 24 batteries to run the hoop! There are 6 slots to fill with 4 batteries each. I went to the local store and saw that each battery was $4! I went online and even with the cheapest batteries I could find, it would still cost over $30 to replace the batteries (and that was ordering in bulk). Also, one of the places where the hoop connects was already coming loose and it looked like it would effect the integrity of the hoop. So, I still have this hoop sitting around my house and have yet to spend the money on replacing the batteries.

Another point is the size. I had never hooped with 1" tubing before and it is VASTLY different from the 3/4" tubing that standard hoops are made of. The hoop seems really bulky to me and its difficult to do any off the body work.

I think she bought the hoop less than a year ago, but I'm not sure if any major changes have been made the the manufacturing of the hoop.
    Just my 2 cents!

Crikes.. I'd been looking at one of those because they break down and I love the ice color combination .....never realized it took so many batteries.. ouchies.
I have to say I do own a Superhooper and I love it. I've had it since March and it's still going strong on the original batteries and has taken a few accidental drops. I can definitely say I'd recommend one. Heck I'd love to get a few more in different colors and sizes but I think hubby would spaz and I can just hear him asking do I really need all those lol Why yes.. yes I do dear.
Ah so many cool led hoops and so little cash lol I'd have several from all the different makers of them if I could. : P

hi, after reading the entire thread I would have to recommend hoopelements.com. Echo Raven makes the ProdMod hoop, I know, I know its the hoop I designed but I honestly think its the best deal around. It has 21 LEDs, its rechargeable, and you can coil it down like the headyhoop, but I think its better.

Let me explain why I think its a better deal:

        1. The ProdMod hoop has smooth surfaces all the way around so nothing gets in the way of your hooping. No velcro straps no bumps etc.
        2. The switch is on the outside of the hoop surface but smooth so it wont get accidentally tripped off. This makes it easy to turn on and off without having to disconnect the hoop.
        3. The rechargeable battery runs 6 hours but only takes 1 hour to charge! Yep just 1 hour!! That is the fastest on the market. I cant imagine waiting 10 hours before I can hoop again. That's old technology. When was the last time you waited 10 hours for anything? ;)
        4. The battery requires very little maintenance, you dont have to wait for it to fully discharge before charging it again. Plug in whenever you want. It will never degrade the battery life
        5. The battery can be charged many many more times than the other hoop batteries. So you don't have to worry about replacing batteries in a few years.
        6. The charger is tiny like your cell phone charger so it fits in your purse, bag, even your pocket.
makes it a better deal is that the rechargeable battery only takes 1 hour to charge

I dont know, I guess I am impatient and hate waiting for a charge, so these are big points for me.

So give echo raven a call/click, I think she can also provide diff color combination etc.

if you have any questions you can ask us

I'd like to add here that I do solder each and every hoop I make, and each is also quiet (no sound of lights hitting the tubing as it goes around) and do indeed offer different/custom color combinations by request. :)

            hmm.....

SERIOUSLY THOUGHT don't buy a superhooper LED hoop. Unless they have changed drastically since I purchased one in 06 they are a huge waste of money.

With that said....this decision comes down to WHAT YOU WANT from you LED HOOP and where you want to GO as a hooper.

If you are a happy hooper, who wants to have something that glows at a festival, and at parties then a cheaper LED hoop is for you.

If you want it to LAST, if you want to be brighter than the rest, if you want to pursue performance....i would recommend psihoop.com
Still the best on the market by far.

            =D

            Happy Hooping!!!

I'm sooo confused about which LED hoop!
I would get a psi but I actually want one that is a steady colour- I'm not really into that fancy rainbow stuff.
Groovin what exactly is so bad about the superhooper ones in your experience?

The heady hoops look good but does that bit of velcro not get in the way? Also, I've ruled out the luxotica ones as 1 1/4 inches thick is WAY too thick for me.
I also need one that coils up... any more suggestions/ advice much appreciated, I've spent so many hours looking at LED hoops on the internet and wish I could just try them all out!
              • Re: Luxotica LED Hoops

                Mon, September 22, 2008 - 12:56 PM
PSI hoops are custom built, so you could ask for a solid colour one.

I suspect most hoop makers could do that for you. The ProdMod kits could be just one colour if you ask.

Groovin' Megs has hit the nail on the head. It depends on what you want to do with it. The Superhooper that I tried rattled and I didn't like that. I also didn't like the tubing, but that's personal preference. There is a new led hoop maker in the UK now, www.rainbow-hoops.co.uk/ but their web site isn't finished. They sell on Ebay. Might be worth looking or emailing them. The trouble is that a single colour SuperHooper hoop would perhaps meet your needs and if you lived in the States wouldn't be too expensive to try. But getting one here to the UK means shipping. HoopGuy has some, but the price is high and stops it being a sensible first led hoop purchase.

I'm probably not helping. I'm rambling. I love my psi so I'm biased.

if you are looking for a cheap but good alternatived to psi hoops i would try ledheadyhoops.com or holistichooping.com holistichooping i think is still getting there website up and running but if you email them, i'm sure they can help you. I have tried hoops from both and think they are very good and run about 120 bucks. they both offer car chargers which is cool and led heady hoops offers a solar charger for like 20 bucks. that's hot, in my opinion. led heady hoops come with a piece of velcro around the connector wich the guy says he uses because it is re-usable and more eco than tape but you can easily use tape if it bothers you. i'm not affiliated with either of these folks, i own a psi hoop and i like it but when i have the money to get a set of twins i will go with one of those two sites for the affordability. in my opinion they are a pretty comprable product. the holistic hoops are the only hoop i've seen which visually i could not distinguish from a psi hoop.

Wow, thanks for all the responses. I've learned a lot from everyone's experiences with different hoops.

I did e-mail Luxotica about their hoop ten days ago, and they never responded to me so they're obviously not that interested in my business.

I think, personally I'm leaning towards either a heady hoop or trying out a prodmod kit, as I've been interested in experimenting with small electronics anyways.

Right now my priorities lie in getting an affordable hoop which I can take with me on the road (so collapsible would be a major plus), as I'm planning to travel consistently and live out of my car for the next year or so. I e-mailed Jason at heady hoops about the solar charger and he said that his supplier stopped selling them and he was having a difficult time finding a new one. The solar charger would be awesome as I plan on spending a lot of time camping out in the woods without any electricity, so I'm curious, is there a similar option for other hoops? Or does anyone know of a solar charger that would work with the heady hoops?

just in reference to the prodmod hoop mentioned earlier...even though I know this is a tad late. My hoop in my pics is a prodmod. I am accustomed to a 3/4" hoop, and the 1" kit is equivalent. I believe it came with 21 LED lights; blue, green and color changing (red to blue to green and bac to red). Its pretty sick though, and especially for the price. I paid 60 for the kit and then an additional 35 for the rechargeable battery option, so it just over $100 with shipping. It recommends to solder, but you can substitute hot glue in place of solder. I love it, good feel and flow. The only downside is that it comes with pre-cut tubing, so if you like a larger hoop it is not necessarily for you. :)

I ordered a prodmod hoop several weeks ago, but just got around to putting it together today. I must say I have not had the good experience that other people may have had. I do have an electronics background and I followed instructions closely. First, the diameter of the hoop is 2 inches less than what I had ordered though I didn't realize it until after it was put together. Second, either the color-changing LED lights come on or the other colors, but usually not at the same time. I say 'usually' because I can switch it on and sometimes they all 'fade' on and are dimly lit, then they all fade out again when the mood strikes them. It's very disappointing because it did work initially - for 2 minutes. During that 2 minutes I tried it out and because I had chosen the 1/2" tubing it was very light, which would be ok except the battery adds weight and makes it a bit unbalanced. I have a PSI Hoop that I have been very pleased with. It was expensive but it works well and looks beautiful.

except the battery adds weight and makes it a bit unbalanced.
This is the main reason i love my psi hoop so much.
The batterys are evenly spaced around the hoop.

I am very sorry you had a bad experience with this hoop.
If you had any problems with it you should contact me directly. I only came across this post by browsing around.

Did you order a custom size directly from me or from makershed.com?
I don't have your email so I can't tell how you ordered your hoop.

The color changing LEDs change on their own so they are not in sync. There is no circuit or software to syncronize them.
There should not be anything on my site indicating that they are in sync. If there is please let me know.
In fact there is a video on my site showing what the LED hoop looks like under FAQ and you can see that it is not in sync.
                prodmod.com/diy-led-hula-hoop-kit/
                or
                www.youtube.com/watch

I am especially concerned about the diameter of the hoop. I measure diameter from the outermost edges, please make sure the hoop is round before measuring. If it is oval shaped you will have a short diameter and a long diameter depending on where you measure. It is normal for the hoop to be oval when you first build it since it was crammed into a box or bag for shipping. It should get more round as you use it, you can also bend it manually and use a hair dryer or hot air gun to relax the plastic and reform it.

If you feel the hoop is in fact round but still not the correct diameter I will happily send you a replacement tube.
you can contact me directly using my site
                prodmod.com/contact
this is the fastest way to reach me.

i personally don't reccomend light up and juggle's led hoop. i had one, earlier in my hoop career and it broke several times. i had the led replaced a few times, and eventually just got a refund. it was too wide and heavy for the hooping i do now anyways

now i have a super epic double circuit from hooping harmony <3<3<3<3 hoopingharmony.com folks! it's a bit pricey, but should definitly be considered if you're looking for a top of the line led hoop, hooping harmony's hoops are the only one's i've seen so far that rival/equal psi hoops. worth every penny. best thing i own. think about how much i love it constantly

heady hoops are pretty sweet too tho. and have the same collapsible-ness/internal switch as mine.

I know you've gotten lots of feedback, but I did recently order a LED Heady Hoop & love it.

*I have not worked with other LED hoops nor seen various ones in one setting (other hoopers/festivals,etc) to compare or ask

I got the NEW 30 LED hoop 15 constant/15 blinking...morphing lights, that is collapsible, it came with a car AND regular outlet charger & was delivered for a grand total of $204.00

Plus I got great customer service. The total OUTER diameter of the hoop is 3/4", but almost feels like 1/2" (cause I'm so used to taped hoops & heavier PSI weight) and it weighs a total of 1 pound 1 ounce. It feels very light & I will have to strategically gaff it up, but so far I'm in heaven.

heady hoops are pretty light. i'm totally in love with my led hoop. but if i ever branch out to poi hooping, i might considering getting two heady hoops. i love the way the colors just morph constantly forming beautiful shifty color combinations. i went to a festival in the midwest this summer and it seemed like soooo many people there had heady hoops. i was surpirsed to see that it had a similar opening/collapsing as mine from hooping harmony. i personally thought the heady hoops were a little too light for my taste. and that the material wasn't as durable. my led hoop is like indestructable (not really of course, but really sturdy) it's not heavy but it's heavier than a heady hoop. i like a little bit of weight. just a tad. cuz i hoop kind of fast, and if a hoops too light and floaty it doesn't whip around the way i like it.
