    <summary type="html">When I teach this move, I tell my students to visualize.  When pushing the hoop up, visualize punching tstraight up to the sky.  Then catch the "frisbee" with the opposite hand , "throw" it behind your back. and catch it with the other hand.  Also, Harold Hooper taught me to execute the moves from the back of my waist ,which quickly increased my speed and the stability of my hoop.  Good luck!</summary>

I've been playing with vertical isolations for a while now and it never occurred to me that this move called for an isolation (or at least a partial one) but it makes total sense.  So...snap &amp;amp; isolate...?  It's going to be hours before I can try this out but I can't wait!</summary>

    <summary type="html">remember that to do this move over and over you have to isolate it somewhat. this means the point of rotation is somewhere inside the hoop (not the middle for this move), NOT where the hoop touches your hand.&#xD;
&#xD;
why? because the the hoop has to go AROUND your body, which is a little too large to be considered a "point."</summary>

Thanks, everybody, for the tips.  Right now, I do turn while executing this move, but would like to be able to do it without turning.  I can do it once without turning, I'd like to do more, mostly because I like the look of it going up &amp;amp; down repeatedly, and turning the whole time just makes me too dizzy.  (As a side note my favorite poi moves are pirouettes also, so I'm just spinning around constantly LOL)&#xD;
&#xD;
I do think that speed/momentum is the main issue I need to work on; Xta that "snap" technique sounds like a good solution.  Can't wait to get home to try it!</summary>

    <summary type="html">i would suggest turning while doing this move, it seems to keep the flow going and maintain momentum.  i usually to a spin on my hand once or twice before bringing it down again.</summary>

My suggestion would be to add more momentum/speed on your upward lift, with a fairly strong &amp;amp; crisp SNAP at the fullest extension of your lifting arm before you immediately bring the hoop back down onto your body.&#xD;
&#xD;
If your hoop is spinning CCW on your body, aim the SNAP at around 2:00 (if 12:00 is at the top of your gaze).. 10:00 for CW spins... and make sure whichever hand has the point of contact with the hoop, continues on a diagonal when bringing the hoop back down - diagonals help maintain the hoop's momentum as it duplicates the hoop's own spin.&#xD;
 &#xD;
We were working on this in class a couple weeks ago, and for doing repeats, it made a significant difference if the lifting hand was moving over in front of the body at the top of the lift, vs staying out towards the side.. if the lifting hand wasn't kept wide, it would actually move farther and farther across the body each time, until the hooper ran out of space and time to complete the next repeat.  This same snapping motion also helped some of us get closer to doing the Pizza Toss :)&#xD;

    <summary type="html">I make the suggested ring with two fingers and let the hoop continue rotating while lifting.  I lift with my right hand and I find when I want to do a lot in a row I get more speed on the way down when my left hand (just before the hand off) extends a little bit further in front of my body as if to guide it faster.  Did that make sense?  I kinda guide the hoop and pull it faster around my body, bringing my hand eventually behind my back for the hand off.</summary>

Once I got the switching of the hands down I had the same problem with momentum. I found that on the upswing I had to use more arm muscle, almost like pushing it to keep it from going wonky.&#xD;
Do you turn with you hoop while doing this? &#xD;
I had to practice a lot to be able to do it without turning. &#xD;
Maybe have a look on the video hooping tribe to see if you can find any demos that might help.</summary>

    <summary type="html">The trick, I've found, and I've been doing it since June 2003 (right after Bonnaroo, before HSMF), is to let it roll between your secondary fingers.  It varies, index-middle, middle-ring, thumb-index, and the occasional pinky save.  It should come down immediatly.  Speed is key to maintaining your horizion.  There is no 'pull' as you are always handling the contact point.&#xD;

    <summary type="html">So I've been working on Beam Me Up for a while now, and can only kinda sorta do it.  My plane gets all wonky and I seem to lose momentum after a couple of times up.  I'm wondering -- and I realize this may be a difficult thing to put into words -- what it's supposed to feel like.  Are you constantly feeling the "pull" of the centripetal (centrifugal?) force?  It should never go "slack", is that right?  How do you keep it going?  And once you get it up, does the hoop make a complete rotation on your hand above your head before it goes down, or is it supposed to come back down immediately?&#xD;

I dunno, maybe I just need to practice it more.  Any insight would be much appreciated.</summary>
