    hey philo

do you have any idea why i can't access hooping.org from south africa? i've tried all my browsers, but the page times out every time. it says the server stopped responding. it happened for a while last year as well - very frustrating! is it my side or yours?

    peace.

      Sass -

I haven't heard of the site not being viewable before from South Africa until now. I assume you're on a good internet connection with a decent computer and using a relatively current web browser. Right? I mean you're viewing Tribe and it loads incredibly slow sometimes. It's possible right now with The Hoopies that the server might get a little overloaded, but generally speaking I don't know what the case would be. I'm curious if you could find someone in South Africa who can view Hooping.org. It's unlikely, but it is possible the country has some sort of block on viewing it. China banned hooping.org for awhile. Why? I have no idea. Maybe it was all the references to "revolution."

That's funny. You know China banned Hula Hooping for a while last decade. They said it was a symbol of American decadence. Tee hee hee hee hee... I'm like, tell that to these people! www.youtube.com/watch

Check out the move at 1:40 seconds. Five gymnasts in one tiny hoop!!! Crazy and beautiful!

Quick aside: Other countries that have outlawed hula hoops include Indonesia because they feared hula hooping would "inflame people's passions", the Soviet Union, calling them "a symbol of the emptiness of American culture" and Japan, which simply forbade them on the public streets though you could hula hoop in the privacy of your own home. Silly. All this blaming America is particularly funny since the prototype for the hula hoop as we know it seems to have originiated in Australia in 1957 where it was simply a bamboo ring used in exercise classes. Wham-O copied them and started making bamboo hula hoops that they unveiled at cocktail parties and later plastic hula hoops for kids. You don't hear folks blaming the Aussies though... Pffffttttt...
