Okay..I know there are posts up about both hoops, but no one has really said which one is the best.
So Which one should I get with my economic stimulus check?!?! ;)
Thanks!

Fri, April 25, 2008 - 10:06 AMHahahaha...yeah I have been pricing the two and it fits perfectly with the check :)
Any more people have anything else to say? I want to get on ordering my hoop the minute I get my check so if I am lucky I can get it by PDF...if not then by the time Starscape rolls around in June. -

Re: LED vs. PSI
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 1:23 PMi don't have either, so i don't know how helpful i can be.
having said that...
from what i've learned in my own digging, PSI is definitely the way to go.
i've seen that other hoops can get turned off by accident, due to type and location of switches. other hoops rattle when hooping with them. i know there are some LED hoops that are rechargeable, but others that aren't - you have to dismantle them to change the batteries.
i think if you're gonna do it, do it right. *grins* what's an extra $100 when you're talking about a favorite toy? ;) -

Re: LED vs. PSI
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 7:02 PMWell, PSI is an led hoop. So that's not the distinction, the distinction seems to be the type of lights they carry. Patrick builds beautiful hoops to order and has a patent out on the incredible strobe leds that give the dragonfly lights the amazing light trails.
Personally I have a PSI hoop and I love it to pieces. I'm not gentle with it, I've bashed it hard and it's stood up to it. I've jumped on it (by accident!) and I'm not light, but it's survived. I have tried 2 other led hoops and I favour my PSI over them. But that's not to say that others aren't good in their own right for different reasons. For example, in the States, the Superhooper hoops are very good value. They rattle a bit, but they are much cheaper and they don't feel bad to hoop with. However, over in the UK the import price is high, so they become less viable against the PSI if you want good value and good performance.
In the end you must choose, based on what it is you want.
Good luck! -

Re: LED vs. PSI
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 3:47 AMyea, I wasn't understanding the question at first because - like Sue said, PSI is the brand name and all of the light up hoops that we talk about are LED hoops. LED stands for 'Light Emitting Diode... LEDs are special diodes that emit light when connected in a circuit. There are lots of different programming options for the LEDs. Some are color changing - can be both slow or fast. Some (like the PSI Dragonfly lights) are motion sensitive so they appear stationary when still and leave color trails when in motion. (The PSI Dragonfly LEDs are my personal favorite). And still others, are constant LEDs that stay one color. Therefore, there are lots of options when shopping for an LED hoop. There are also variations in the brightness of the LEDs.
I agree with everything Sue said... I own a PSI and love it to death. Patrick (the manufacturer) has been making his hoops for years and he does a tremendous job. The lights are bright and colorful; the hoop is rechargeable and durable. He also customizes the hoop so it will be exactly the way you want it. I've also heard great things about Hooping Harmony but i have yet to see one of their LED hoops. And if you want a good value/ decent LED hoop, Superhooper is the way to go. Their single color LED hoops are only $99 and I think the pink single color LED hoop from Superhooper looks great. -

Re: LED vs. PSI
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 11:58 AMYes, they are both led hoops. PSI is just a brand name.
I have tried a lot of led hoops and I gotta say, I don't think the technology is really where I hope it will be yet. I have a psi hoop and a super hooper hoop. My super hooper has brilliant colors and I love that about it but it does rattle. The rattle doesn't bother me so much but the switch does. It sticks up and gets turned on by accident (say, in the car) so that the battery dies before I even realize it's on or it turns off by accident (say, during a backroll, especially embarrasing during performance) when I'm trying to use it. I wish it had another kind of switch. I really like the one on the psi hoop. The other disadvantage is that the battery is not rechargable. You have to cut the hoop apart to replace it. I'm no good at that so now I have a dead super hoop because it got turned on in my car and I don't have the wherewithal to figure out how to change the battery or to overcome the switch thing.
On the other hand, my psi hoop is rechargable and has a great switch BUT I can't tell you how many of my friends have trouble with their hoops keeping a charge. And now it's starting to happen to mine. These are hoops that are less than a year old mind you. I know I've done everything according to the instructions ... let the hoop run down completely before recharging, etc. etc. (which can take a long time at the dull red stage, sometimes days) but it just seems to hold a shorter charge every time I recharge it. I don't know what the deal is but that has been my experience and the experience of many of my friends. It seems like a rechargable battery should last longer than a year ... especially since I don't use it that often.

Re: LED vs. PSI
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 7:43 PMYou no longer have to heat your Superhoop to change the batteries. We long since changed the design so that you need only undo one screw. We have offered to update anyone's "older" hoop for the price of shipping. Send it in! -

Re: LED vs. PSI
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 10:48 AMi have a superhooper led hoop- can i ship mine from the uk and have it updated? i've broken the switch again. :( the first time you sent me a replacement free of charge. its a nightmare replacing it but i managed it. however, i've bashed it and the black switch has snapped off again. i now have to keep it in a little tin to switch the hoop on and off.

Re: LED vs. PSI
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 12:36 PMsue, which tubing thickness did you request for your PSI? just curious... -
-
Re: LED vs. PSI
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 1:00 PMOh, I can't remember the spec. It's quite thin. Probably somewhere around 20mm, but your USA tubing sizes are different to those here in the UK. It's not as much as 25mm. I had the middle type of tube. Not stiff, not soft. Half-way house!
I have just posted up some pictures of my new tape job on the hoop. So if you look in my profile at my photos you will see it.

Re: LED vs. PSI
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 3:51 PMi love the new tape job! might have to steal your idea for my superhooper LED one, the one continuous swirl of tape is blocking some of the lights a bit.

Re: LED vs. PSI
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 9:20 AMany opinions on hooping harmony's led hoops? these seem great. and they're rechargeable and have an internal switch, so no mid performance embarassment or accidental battery drainage. plus they coil down! i like the sound of that :D -

Re: LED vs. PSI
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 3:35 PMhmm i haven't seen those harmony ones before - another rechargeable model. Anybody know how they compare to the psi? -
-
Re: LED vs. PSI
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 5:37 PMIts a tough call. If you are super broke and really really want an LED hoop..then go for the cheaper ones. Jason's hoops from Heady Hoops are pretty cool, they are collapsible LEd hoops so they can go in the rain! BUT when it comes down to it...
no LED hoop can compare to a PSI.
They are the best of the best and improving with every hoop he makes. I love both of mine to death and they have revolutionized my form of dance.
Much love to all you hoopy folks out there~<3 -

Re: LED vs. PSI
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 10:33 PMbtw.. Just my opinion but I do think the Harmony Hoops come close to PSI in brightness and quality. -

Re: LED vs. PSI
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 10:31 PMWell I was priviledged enough to get to play with Harmony Hoops while at Convergence. I have to say .. for me personally, I loved them. They were bright, felt great, and were well made. I especially like them because they had a little weight to them without being heavy and felt closer to my regular hoops.
If you look at the Hoop Covergence pictures or videos where there are a ton of LED hoops, the majority of them there are Harmony Hoops, since they were a presenter at the conference. If I had the money at the time I would have definately bought one! -
-
Re: LED vs. PSI
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 8:11 PMActually, the hoops we used at the Convergence were by "Hooping Harmony" of hoopingharmony.com NOT to be (easily) confused with Harmony Hoops which does NOT sell LED hoops.
I loved the Hooping Harmony hoops so much, I got one for myself, and I would vouch for it. It's got a clip connector lets it snap apart to coil down for travel. The switch is located inside the connector, so you won't even accidentally set it off. And comparing the colors between these and PSI hoops, I'd say these hoops are brighter. But, still it's a matter of personal preference ... and budget.
(Thank goodness for economic stimulus checks!)

Re: LED vs. PSI
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 1:09 PMI just purchased a led hoop off of Ebay. I love it so much! The lights are really bright, the construction is balanced, the switch is flush with hoop, it is rechargeable, it coils down and it is light weight. It does rattle a bit when I hoop around my knees. But not too bad. At $195 I highly recommend it!! He has them on Ebay every couple days I think. Check back if there is not one on there now. -

Wed, April 30, 2008 - 1:21 PMDoes it say who the maker is? If not, who is the seller? -

Wed, April 30, 2008 - 3:51 PMThe sellers name on Ebay is jumbogigante. He was really awesome to work with! -

Re: LED vs. PSI
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 9:05 AMi gotta say when it somes down to it, get the PSI. like its been said, it will change the way you groove forever! people are absolutely amazed when they see mine and the work on it is remarkable. its completely silent, rechargeable and patrick is awesome to work with. and... the switch is teeny-tiny so you almost will never hit it off mid-groove. best of luck in your decision! it is magical in the LED realm :)
